What Richard Did - Lenny Abrahamson
*Editor’s note: There’s a shockingly mature and affecting performance in here. I also couldn’t help but draw (great) parallels with Haneke. Abrahamson’s film veers confidently between eerily beautiful/dreamlike and coldly precise. There’s an allegory with the current state of Ireland that completely went over my head, but there’s still plenty of meat to chew on and digest without it. On a more personal note, I couldn’t help but think what would happen if I was ever in a situation like Richard Karlsen or what I’d do if I had a son like him. It’s terrifying in how real it all feels at times…and that ending. Run. Don’t walk.
