What the fuck was that, Von Trier?
I don’t think I was quite prepared for the beautiful, manipulative and overindulgent mess that was Melancholia. However, it was filled with incredible performances and you have to applaud Von Trier for having the balls to make this film and push his actors so hard. Especially incredible was watching Kirsten Dunst go, ‘Hey, the impending apocalypse is probably better than what’s going on in my head.’ That Mary Jane would go this far was a fucking revelation. I’m still processing how I felt about the film itself and am exhausted from the constant sense of doom and despair that I put myself through. Definitely not a fun Friday night film, but an essential one.
